Discounted entry-fees to 2012 Volvo Matchplay

Entries have now opened for the 2012 Volvo Matchplay Championship, the most popular national event for club golfers, and Golf Empire visitors will receive a discount of £10 in the Betterball competition and £5 in the Individual competition.

In 2012 the Volvo Matchplay will be celebrating its 17th year. Grand Finalists win a six day holiday at Vale do Lobo, Algarve in January 2013 including return flights, 5 nights luxury accommodation, hire car, practice round and four competitive rounds on the spectacular Ocean Course and the magnificent Royal Course.

The format is Better-Ball or Individual matchplay with a maximum of 4 rounds before the Regional Finals. Matches are played regionally with minimum traveling and on a mutually convenient date and time with up to five weeks to play each round.

Complimentary or reduced green fees. Courtesy of the course is often granted, but any green fees payable will be charged at the member’s guest rate and shared between competitors.

Up to 8 Regional Finals staged at top class courses in October. Format at Regional and Grand Finals is stableford points.

Who can enter? Current golf clubs members who have an ACTIVE CONGU handicap. In the matchplay stages stroke allowance is ¾ difference in Better-Ball and full in Individual.

Handicap limits are 24 for men and 30 for ladies. Golfers with higher handicaps may enter and play off these limits. Better–Ball teams may be mixed and players may come from different clubs. Golfers under 18 yrs may compete in the Better-Ball competition but MUST be partnered by an adult.

In a nutshell 

• Two separate competitions, Better-Ball pairs and an Individual competition
• Entry fee is £40 per pair and £20 for the Individual competition
• Closing date is Friday 18th May 2012 – play commences on June 1st
• The draw is made on a regional basis to minimise traveling
• Matches are played at home or opponents course – many courses offer courtesy
• Up to four knockout matches played between June and end of September

• Winners of four matches qualify for one of 8 regional finals in October
• Leading pairs and individuals at regional finals qualify for the Grand Final in January 2013
• The winning pair and individual at the Grand Final will qualify to play in the Volvo UK Final with the opportunity to qualify for the Volvo World Golf Challenge final (played at Fancourt, South Africa in Jan 2012) and the once in a lifetime experience of 'Playing with the Pros'
