2012 Opens at Wilpshire Golf Club

Open competitions at Wilpshire Golf Club near Blackburn are always amongst the most popular in the North-West and we're delighted to inform you that entries are now open.

The first competition is less than a month away on Wednesday 14th March. It's a Gents Pairs Open with an entry-fee of £36 per pair, which includes a 2-course meal!

The next two events are Mixed Team Opens. The first competition will be held on Bank Holiday Monday 9th April and is open to men and ladies with maximum handicaps of 28 and 36 respectively. The best two scores count on the front nine whilst the best three scores count on the back nine.

The second tournament takes place on Sunday 3rd June and is a Team Greensomes with the same handicap limits. Entry for both competitions is £52 per team and includes coffee on arrival.

Another Gents Pairs Open will be held on Saturday 30th June and has an entry-fee of £26 per pair. It's a Fourball Betterball and has a maximum handicap limit of 28.

A Ladies Team Open is scheduled for Tuesday 17th July. This 4-lady team event has an entry-fee of £48 per team and a maximum handicap limit of 36.

The Wilpshire Trophy will be held on Saturday 28th July and will once again feature on the Northern Order of Merit. Entry is £25 and includes a light lunch. The handicap limit for this competition is 4.

The annual Mixed Pairs Open will take place on Sunday 5th August and will be a Greensome Stableford format with an entry-fee of £26 per couple.

A Senior Pairs Open takes place on Thursday 9th August and is £26 per pair, the format for this competition is Betterball. The age limit is 50+. A second Senior Pairs Open will also be held on Thursday 6th September with the same format and criteria.

In between those two competitions a Gents Team Open takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 27th August. It's £52 per team of four for this Am-Am event with a maximum handicap of 28.

The popular Adult-Junior Pairs Open goes ahead on Sunday 9th September. Entry is £19 per pair for this Fourball Betterball competition.

Finally, a Senior Ladies Team Open concludes events on Wednesday 12th September. This team of three open is for female golfers aged 50+ and costs £36 per team.

Visitors are always made welcome and you will find the course demanding but not strenuous, and the clubhouse hospitality second to none.

At 5,843 yards and par 69 the course is not long by modern standards but it has a pair of excellent par 5's and five par 3's, none of which are that easy.

The combination of parkland and moorland with the threat of challenging rough and a few water hazards can make a round interesting enough, especially for the player who is driving off-line!
