PGA North Region launches tour school

PROFESSIONALS hoping to compete in PGA North Region Order of Merit tournaments will have to attend tour school.

In a new initiative announced today, the previous policy of running qualifying rounds for the bigger tournaments has been replaced by two-day 36-hole events at Normanton and Dunscar.

Regional secretary Graham Maly explained: “We are holding them before the season gets fully under way so that players will know their rankings and able to plan their diaries much earlier than normal.

“It’s also a cost-cutting exercise because they won’t have to leave their workplace as often to travel up and down the region which is time-consuming.

“Any player who fails to secure an automatic qualifying spot in the first event may enter the second one to improve their ranking position. In total there will be 60 qualifying spots but exempt players are also required to confirm their entry.”
Maly added: “The South and East regions have already adopted the system which has been well received.”

Tour school dates: April 17-18 (Normanton); April 25-26 (Dunscar).

The nine Order of Merit Tournaments are: Renewable Service Group Cottingham Parks Pro-am (Cottingham); Kerr Investments Cumbrian Classic (Penrith & Carlisle); Pokerstars Manx Classic (Ramsey); Spirotech Open (Marriott Worsley Park); James Brearley Lancashire Open (Blackpool North Shore); De Vere Leeds Cup (Oulton Hall); Rocar Moores Fixby Classic (Huddersfield); De Vere PGA North Region Championship (Herons’ Reach).
