Trevose to host SingleFigureGolfer Final and Qualifying School

Single Figure Golfer (SFG) is delighted to announce that the final of the 2011 Challenge Tour sponsored by Srixon & Cleveland is to be hosted by the magnificent links course of Trevose in North Cornwall from the 16th - 20th October 2011.

The 4th SFG final sees Trevose (who hosted the event last year) expand the concept with an 81 person two-day qualifying school beforehand with the leading 10 players staying on for the final. Over 100 open golf events will be used in this year’s qualifying process which sees golfers with a handicap of 9 or below earn points by playing in selected club open golf events.

The final sees the amateur team captained by successful Walker Cup captain Peter McEvoy OBE taking on former Ryder Cup vice captain Peter Baker’s team of Ryder Cup and Walker Cup players.

Nick Gammon, Managing Director of Trevose stated “We are delighted to be hosting the SFG final again this year and especially pleased to welcome so many of our country’s former Ryder cup players back to Cornwall. Like all Colt designed courses Trevose aims to provide the ultimate test of links golf and I look forward to seeing the country’s top amateurs and past Ryder Cup legends doing battle once again. The course has undergone a few modifications this past year which will provide some new challenges, so it’s all set up to be a great season finale to the SFG tournament.

Paul Heming Chief executive of OneGolfCard which operates SFG said “After last years success at Trevose we didn’t think twice about coming back. When considering all of the aspects necessary to hold a great tournament , such as quality of course , atmosphere and hospitality Trevose has it all. I’d also like to say another huge thanks to all at Srixon & Cleveland for continuing to support this initiative that has caught the imagination of excellent club golfers”

Govere Wins at Wokefield

Jimmy Govere fired a flawless round of golf to take the latest Gtour title at De Vere Wokefield Park.

The win catapulted Govere up the order of merit standings as the Gtour played out its fourth event of the year.

On a warm day just south of the capital the later starters found it tough on the back nine as some impressive scores were being posted in what was another sell out event.

For big hitting Govere it was all about having fun and everything just clicked into play after that:

“I was aggressive out there today, attacking every green and my Driver was working well going straight and long nearly all the time.

“It was just fantastic fun out there with my playing partners and I just want to thank everyone involved in the Gtour for another great event.”

Steve Watson is the new order of merit leader with his 31st place finish enough to put him at the top.

The race to be at Belton Woods for the two-day semi-final really is in full swing with plenty of points still up for grabs throughout the 2011 season.

The tour next moves north and to the stunning De Vere Slaley Hall where players will have to be at the top of their game around the championship course once used on the European Tour.

Top Ten at Wokefield:

The Hampshire PGA's Match-play Championship takes on a new look this year.

First round matches have to be played by 31st May.

About Lilley Brook
Lilley Brook is about aspiration and inspiration.

The course is in a glorious natural setting, which celebrates many varied species of fine trees including red maples, Indian bean trees, walnuts and oaks. It’s an aesthetic and strategic mix of pleasures for both the eye and the mind.

Their magnificent horse chestnut tree that guards the right-hand approach to the second green is once seen… never forgotten.

The course offers more than a few serious challenges for club golfers. The 12th hole, for instance, is a 397-yard par 4 that sweeps uphill to the green. You have to keep your tee shot to the left of the fairway to have the best angle into a green which slopes wickedly from back to front. It is undoubtedly the most difficult hole on the course and one where a par feels likes a birdie.

The entire Lilley Brook course is a testament to a brilliant design that has proudly stood the test of time over many decades.
