Dan’s the man after birdie spree

DAN Osbaldeston claimed his second Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit title with one shot victory in the Caldy Quart.

The 21-year-old plus one player showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels after a near perfect first round seven-under-par 65.

Osbaldeston, who won the Prestbury Open over his home course last season, strung together six of his eight birdies in seven holes from the fourth and the only blemish on his card was a bogey at the 15th.

He followed up with 72 as the chasing pack narrowed the gap, Prenton’s Mark Geddes closing with a 67 after picking up shots on five of the opening seven holes.

Bromborough’s Marcus Mohr was third, two off the pace after a second round 69.
And fifth placed Steve McGlynn, two-under-par all told, moved into second spot in the Order of Merit, 165 points behind Lancashire Amateur champion John Carroll, from Huyton and Prescot.
