MARK Ashworth won his first Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit event of the season thanks to a flawless second round six-under-par 65 in the Antlers Trophy at Pleasington.
The Clitheroe plus one player trailed three shots off the pace after his opening 72 but overtook the field with a haul of six birdies, three on each loop, to prevail by two strokes from Blackburn’s Steve McGlynn.
Ashworth picked up shots at the short 16th and 17th on a day when six players were either level or under par.
McGlynn, winner of the Calvert Trophy at Ashton & Lea last month, moved up to third in the rankings, five points behind Southport and Ainsdale’s Sean Towndrow who is 210 adrift of leader John Carroll, the Lancashire County champion from Huyton & Prescot.
The top nine spots are occupied by Red Rose team-mates.
