MIKE Jones kept his cool to retain the Skycaddie PGA North Region Assistants’ Championship at wind-swept Ilkley with a three-under-par 66.
“It was tough in those conditions but I refused to get flustered and made sure my yardages were correct,” said the 27-year-old.
And victory came just at the right time for the Carden Park assistant who has stepped up his playing schedule after qualifying for the Euroro Tour.
“I’m competing at Burhill next week so this result will boost my confidence,” he added. “I need to move up the rankings to get into more events.”
Out in level par, Jones harvested three birdies on the home stretch as he prevailed by two shots from Ashton-on-Mersey’s Rory Walsh who was four-over par after three holes.
DETAILS: 66 - Mike Jones (Carden Park); 68 - Rory Walsh (Ashton-on-Mersey); 69 – Jamie Guy (Caldy), Oliver Cross (Brough), Joe Feather (Leeds Golf Centre).
