Rain in Spain for Junior Tour

Heavy rain in Spain didn't deter the 36 hole GM Junior Tour Spanish Open from taking place last weekend and as usual it proved to be a great success for the emerging Junior Tour.

The popular two day event at Los Flamingos in Alferini for talented junior golfers was affected when first rain and then bad light caused the first day to only see 9 holes played. However, better weather on the second day allowed the event to catch up with 27 holes taking place!

Graham Moore, the founder of the tour said, "The rain on the first day was a a bit of a nightmare and we were stop-start but we managed to get the 36 holes in and everybody really enjoyed it."

The results for the competition can be found here.

Whilst there are three more International Events this year (Switzerland, USA & Ireland) the next event is at The Grove, Hertfordshire as the tournament due to be played at Wychwood Park on the 6th-7th February has been cancelled due to essential maintenance work required on the course after the bad weather during January.

Maria Alzo-Miquel, the tour's Administration Manager, explained, "Due to the unforeseen circumstances the GM Junior Tour Management have decided to cancel the two day event at Wychwood Park. The players that have already entered can either have their entry fee re-imbursed or get it credited towards the next event. We apologies for the inconvenience."

Longhirst Hall joins 2010 PGA EuroPro Tour schedule

Northumberland venue signs up to host tournament in June

The 2010 EuroPro Tour schedule continues to take shape as Longhirst Hall Golf Club in Northumberland has signed a deal to host a tournament in June.

The Tour announced the first dates of next year’s schedule late in 2009 and the Morpeth club is the latest to be added to the schedule from 9-11 June.

Longhirst was formed in 1997 and features two superb 18-hole layouts. The Tour event will take place over The Lakes course, which is designed with the Florida style courses in mind. The Lakes course is not a long course but accuracy will play a major part in deciding the ultimate winner, with an abundance of lakes and water features coming into play on most holes.

“To bring an event of this stature to Longhirst Hall has been an objective since our opening in 1997,” said Graham Chambers, Longhirst Hall’s golf manager. “The North East is a hot bed for golf, and we look forward to hosting golfers from all over the country. We have a unique course for them to test themselves on, and I'm sure they will find it demanding but enjoyable. We are excited also to be teaming up with Matchroom Sport and the PGA for the first time.”

“I am delighted that we have agreed a deal to take the Tour to Longhirst Hall,” said the Tour’s operations manager Danny Nickless. “We are always looking for new and exciting venues to host tournaments that will provide a stern test to the players, and Longhirst certainly fits the bill.”

Further events on the 2010 schedule will be announced shortly – entry for the Q School is now open at the official website www.europrotour.com

Bunker Mentality Sponsor Two Amateur Tours In 2010

Bunker Mentality – one of Europe's most fashionable clothing brands – will sponsor not one but two amateur tours next season. Having sponsored the GTour last season, it will do so again this season whilst also sponsoring the Single Figure Golfer (SFG) tour.

Colin Asbury of Gtour said “following a successful tour in 2009 we are delighted to once again team up with Bunker Mentality in 2010. The Gtour is about recreating the drama and camaraderie of the professional tours for amateur golfers & for us the Bunker Mentality brand is a perfect fit as they represent what modern golf is all about”.

Bunker Mentality’s Robert Hart said: “Both these tours have been successful in the last 12 months proving that there are lots of keen golfers out there looking to play in a regular, well organised event. The profile of the golfer is changing and a new mindset is at work on both these tours. They are run by young companies with management that are keen to grow the game. GTour & SFG recognised the change and want a sponsor that reflects this, which is why Bunker Mentality is a perfect fit.”

Paul Heming of SFG said “we are delighted to be associated with this vibrant clothing brand and are pleased to align ourselves with a company who understands the importance of grassroots golf”

The GTour and SFG tours will be running between April and October 2010. The SFG tour is open to golfers with a single figure handicap whilst the G-Tour is open to golfers of all abilities

“At Bunker we make fully use of our social media channels to communicate with our customers directly. GTour & SFG also do this which was another key factor in our decision to support both tours as all our customers are very media savvy.”

Bunker Mentality had another very busy year last year and announcing these sponsorship agreements is a perfect way to start 2010. Bunker Mentality is a clothing brand for golfers with a love of the great game and who have an individual personality, people who are keen to create new traditions in golf.
