Young rewrites the record book – again!

MARK Young chalked up his second course record in eight days when he fired a first round seven-under-par 65 on his way to winning the Grange Park Rose Bowl.

The Longridge man clipped a stroke off the previous mark set in the same event last year by his Lancashire team-mate Paul McFerran from Childwall.

And Young, who set a new low of 64 in the Wilmslow Crow at the end of last month, extended his lead in the Mitsushiba Northern Order of Merit to 140 points.

He made a blistering start with four birdies in his first five holes and added another quartet in the home stretch, picking up shots at three of the par fives.

He eagled the 13th in a second round 68 to which he added another four birdies but was chased all the way to the finishing line by Southport & Ainsdale’s Paul Howard who posted 69 and 66.
