Scottish Hickory Open

The Scottish Hickory Open will be held at The Royal Musselburgh Golf Club later this month and there are still a few spaces available.

Inaugurated in 2009, this event is aimed at ordinary club golfers, giving them the opportunity to experience golf as played by our forebears, so all clubs and a bag are supplied.

The entry-fee is just £30 per pair with three Scratch and three Handicap prizes offering a minimum of:

More info...
The tournament is open to men & women on both days and also to mixed pairs on the Saturday.

Most hickory competitions are usually aimed at collectors and other specialist groups, but the Scottish Hickory Open is different in that it is aimed at the ordinary club golfer.... you!

Royal Musselburgh recommend the use of a modern soft ball for play in the competition - no gutta perchas required!!

The venue...
The Royal Musselburgh Golf Club is the world's fifth oldest club with a history dating back to at least 1774. The club was awarded its Royal status in 1876 shortly after HRH the Duke of Connaught (the third son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert) became Honorary President.

He held the position until his death in 1942.The members originally played over the famous links course at Musselburgh. The club moved to Prestongrange estate, between Musselburgh and Prestonpans, in the early 1920s. The course is a gently undulating par 70 (ladies par 73) parkland designed by James Braid.

In addition to the original hole cutter and other valuable artefacts and trophies, the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club owns the Old Club Cup, a magnificent piece of silverware first presented in 1774, which is the oldest cup in the world still played for competitively today. The clubhouse is an outstanding A-listed building with a fascinating history dating back to the 12th century.

The club hosted the World Junior Open in 2002 just before the Open Championship was staged at nearby Muirfield.
