DANNY Lord made a dream start – and finish – to the Phoenix Gas Classic west qualifier at De Vere Wychwood Park.
The Lancashire-based professional eagled the first hole then repeated the feat at the last but between he picked up six bogeys and four birdies as he posted a two-under-par 70.
He shared first place with North East exile Gary Donnison, the Mobberley incumbent and 2003 PGA North Region champion who had as less adventurous round containing five birdies and three bogeys.
Eight players were a shot off the pace with 39 qualified on 75 or better for the tournament at the same venue on July 7-9.
The east qualifier is at Keighley on May 17.
