It’s Murray – by some distance!

ANDREW Murray clinched the myProGolfer winter series at Fairhaven - while he was practising for a PGA Senior Tour event in South Africa.

The 55-year-old Manchester-born professional, who is attached to Portal, did not have to turn up for the last of four fixtures to claim the merit award after accruing enough points in the first three.

And the 1989 European Open winner should be inspired by the news when he pegs up in the inaugural Berenberg Bank Masters at Fancourt which starts tomorrow (Thursday).

Murray finished 33 points ahead of Mossock Hall’s David Shacklady as Adrian Ambler, from Walton Golf Centre, took third place 92 off the pace.

Ambler fired a four-under-par 68 to share the honours on the final day with Windermere pro Simon Edwards and Ringway’s David Brunton.

LEADING SCORES (Par= 72): 68 Simon Edwards (Windermere), David Brunton (Ringway), Adrian Ambler (Walton Golf Centre); 69 Richard Booth (Hale), David Shacklady (Mossock Hall), Paul Eales (Garstang); 70 Stuart Runcie (Abergele), Tim Maxwell (Knutsford), Andrew Pickering (Carus Green), Matthew Tottey (North Wales).

FINAL ORDER OF MERIT: 662 pts Andrew Murray (Portal); 629 David Shacklady (Mossock Hall); 570 Adrian Ambler (Walton Golf Centre); 400 Chris Hanson (Woodsome Hall), Will Barnes (Garstang); 395 Tim Maxwell (Knutsford); 390 David Brunton (Ringway), 308 Simon Edwards (Windermere), 303 Richard Booth (Hale); 300 Scott Astin (Hesketh).
