Cox lands silver again

MATTHEW Cox struck silver for the second time in a month in the Mitsushiba Northern Order of Merit.

He was the only player to break par in the Silver Pheasant at Fairhaven where he beat the host club’s Lee Mayors by a shot. The former professional, who also captured the Birkdale Silver Goblet over his home course, went round in 73 and 74 for a one-under total.

Prestbury’s Mike Bedford was third, three off the pace, as he extended his lead in the merit table.

Cox, a plus two handicapper, led by one at the half-way stage thanks to five birdies which helped to offset a double bogey at the short 10th.
