WEST of Ireland champion David Corsby won the De Frece Trophy at Blackpool North Shore, which figured in the Mitsushiba Northern Order of Merit for the first time, with rounds of 65 and 68 for a nine-under-par total.The Lancashire player famously beat Shane Lowry at County Sligo earlier in the year, a few weeks before the Esker Hills player won the Irish Open then turned professional.
And he turned on another impressive performance as he prevailed by two shots from Fairhaven’s Charles Durnian, son of PGA European Seniors’ Tour stalwart Denis.
Lancashire player Corsby eagled two of the three par five holes and birdied the other in his opening round as he led by a shot from Royal Lytham & St Annes clubmate Henry Tomlinson.
Two birdies in the last four holes in the second round ensured victory as Tomlinson finished third on countback.
