Belsham bids for Manx double

MARK Belsham is aiming to become the first player to win the Manx Classic two years in a row when the action starts at Mount Murray next Thursday (July 30).

The teaching professional at Kent resort Stoneless claimed the title last summer at Castletown after the final round was abandoned when high winds and torrential rain rendered the course unplayable.

The three round pro-am, the jewel in the PGA North Region crown for nearly 30 years, will also feature past winners Paul Eales who prevailed in 2007, fellow Lancastrian David Shacklady and Yorkshire’s Neil Cheetham who is taking break from playing the South African Tour.

Island interest will be provided by Allyn Laing, Andrew Patterson and former Castletown pro Michael Brooks.

In addition to PokerStars, island businesses Dougherty Quinn, Cubbin and Bregazzi, Luminaires, RBS Coutts and Escape Properties are also supporting the event.

The presentation dinner on Saturday will be preceded by the David Edwards Trick Show.
