The event takes the form of a 'team of 4' competition open to gents and ladies with an entry cost of £99 per team. There is complimentary tea/coffee and bacon baps on arrival plus a warm-up on the driving range beforehand.

GM Junior Golf Tour

New sponsors have enabled the GM JUNIOR GOLF TOUR, now in its 5th year, to provide reduced prices for a number of events and GM Tour member only rates.

Graham Moore, the organiser of the junior golf tour said, "CJ Services are one of our main contributors and with their kind help the GM brand has been able to produce a quarterly newsletter, provide exceptional prizes for the GM Tour players and reduced rates for a number of events for all players."

He added, "As GM Junior Tour is now firmly established in the junior golf calendar, we have reduced the number of events which has enabled us to concentrate on larger events in our goal of bringing the best juniors worldwide together at our European Championship in Crans–Sur-Sierre, the home of the Omega European Masters on the European Tour, our two-day European events in Spain and France along with our UK Championships at Wildwood Golf Club in Surrey."

These events and more are recognised by Junior Golf Scoreboard which gives the GM Tour members and players a ranking status in the world of junior golf.

2009 will also see the introduction of the Miguel Angel Jimenez Trophy which will be played on the 10th August at Portal Championship in Cheshire, this event will also provide five prizes of a week's "villa rental" in Spain.

Golf Empire have just had an adding frenzy of open golf competitions in Cumbria!

58th Bournemouth Open Week

The 58th Bournemouth Open Golf Week will take place as usual this year at Meyrick Park and Queens Park Golf Clubs in early June.

The popular open week is expected to fill up very quickly so competitors interested in playing in any of the events should enter asap. An entry-form can be found here.

Birdie spree as Baguley bags career best

BIRDIES flew in thick and fast at Royal Liverpool in the PGA North Region Mansell Finishes Winter Pro-am.

And Leigh professional Andrew Baguley grabbed eight of them plus an eagle as he covered his outward half in a stunning nine-under-par. "That was a career best for nine holes," said the 45-year-old former PGA Cup player. I surprised myself because I'd not practised for ages and competed in few events all season.

"I suppose it was just one of those days and you could say I played from memory. The eagle came at the par five eighth, my opening hole, where I hit a driver and four wood to eight foot and then rolled in seven birdies on the way to the turn."

Baguley, who attributed his trio of bogeys to three putting, posted a seven-under-par 65, added: "We played the yellow course which is shorter than the normal one but you still have to hit the shots and get the ball into the hole."

His score was matched by Haigh Hall's Craig Corrigan, winner of a pro-am in the United States last week, who conjured up eight birdies, blotting his card with a lone bogey at the 12th. Wilpshire's Simon Townend, a shot off the pace with Adrian Ambler from Walton Golf Centre, picked up an extra bonus for winning the team event with Pleasington partner Julian Peck on 15-under.

Romiley's Matthew Ellis filed a no return but stayed in pole position in the Order of Merit and lies 10 points ahead of Darland's Mark Sheppard at the half-way stage of the six events which resume in March, again at Royal Liverpool.
